Grade 1 & 2 – Odd Year

Term 1: Now & Then

Students investigate the past and present to identify how history can reveal a person’s or community’s past, allowing us to identify how change impacts our lives. We focus on features of the past decades from the 1900’s to the present day.

Term 2: We Are Designers

Students explore the science of ‘push and pull’ and observe and gather evidence about how these forces act in air and water, and on the ground. They learn about the design process of many different everyday objects. They plan, design, make and evaluate their own object.

Term 3: Connections

Students look at how people are connected to many places in the world. They focus on their own community, as well as other communities in Australia and how they connect to other places in the world. They focus on world maps, flags and cultures of many different countries of the world, including investigating their own family history!

Term 4: Waterworks

Students will be looking at Earth’s resources, including water, soil and minerals, and describing how they are used in the school, home and the community. Students think about how they can save water and resources in these places. An excursion to Edendale Farm to learn more will be very exciting!
